Advocacy Team: Poor Conditions for Disabled Internally Displaced Persons in Kassala

Kassala - moatinoon
The Advocacy Team for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Kassala State denounced the governments and humanitarian actors neglect in taking appropriate measures to ensure that disabled displaced persons have access to basic services provided in the state.

In a statement issued yesterday, the team stated that the current response mechanism does not align with a rights-based approach and disregards the specific facilitative methods outlined in international humanitarian protocols.

The team protested against the ineffective representation of persons with disabilities in humanitarian working committees that address the needs of displaced individuals. They urged all relevant parties to comply with their commitments and eliminate discrimination and marginalization based on disability in situations of armed conflict and its aftermath.

The United Nations Security Council has called upon all parties to armed conflicts to commit to the protection of persons with disabilities and to prevent violence and attacks perpetrated against them, including killings, mutilations, abductions, torture, sexual violence, and other forms of gender-based violence in armed conflicts and post-conflict situations
