Dozens of children die due to conflict in Sudan

Yesterday, the volunteer campaign team Ma Brakum announced the death of 14 children at the Maiyakuma orphanage in Khartoum due to a power outage and the failure of the backup generator.

The team stated on their Facebook account that they are making concerted efforts to evacuate the children from the orphanage to a safe place in cooperation with the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF). The international agency has officially committed to covering all necessary expenses and arranging safe transportation for all the children in the orphanage.

On May 18th, the Street of Incidents initiative and Wad Madani reported that 20 children died as a result of deteriorating health conditions. The initiative revealed a shortage of blood bags, platelets, and essential medications due to the increasing number of displaced people arriving in Khartoum as a result of the war.

The initiative clarified that it is working to save hundreds of children, as medical treatment is not free for the displaced, which has led to accumulating debts with pharmacies and relevant organizations.

The Ma Brakum campaign is an initiative affiliated with the voluntary organization Hadareen, and the Street of Incidents initiative was established in 2012 and relies on social media networks. Both organizations work on caring for impoverished patients and collecting donations to support them or donate blood.

In Zalingei, a news report published by Al Hadath TV channel revealed the death of 30 children due to power outages and the unavailability of fuel for the hospital generators. Citizens expressed their concern about the impact of the ongoing clashes between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces in several Sudanese cities on healthcare facilities and other infrastructure.
