Fighting Claims the Lives of Over 1800 People

In the latest statistics on the casualties of the conflict in Sudan, the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) stated in its recent update that the fighting has claimed the lives of over 1800 people since April 15. The statistics recorded more than 800 deaths as of yesterday across the country.

Over 340 incidents of political violence were recorded throughout the country, including 275 battle events, with the majority concentrated in Khartoum, accounting for over 60% of all recorded political violence incidents between April 15 and May 19.

It was noted that the use of remote explosive devices, such as airstrikes, reached its highest monthly point in the past six years, with most strikes carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces in Khartoum.

The organization further highlighted that the fighting between the two sides has led to deadly sectarian clashes in the city of Genaina in West Darfur, with violence increasing by more than four times in the city compared to the monthly average of the previous year. Over 700 deaths have been reported in Genaina since April 15.

The organization documented nearly 60 incidents of civilian targeting since the beginning of the conflict, with over 75% of them occurring in Khartoum. It also noted that over two-thirds of the fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces took place in cities with a population of over 100,000
