Gunfire exchange in Nyala, and 1,100 casualties reported in El Geneina

Renewed gunfire exchange occurred this morning in the city of El Geneina, following a week-long calm. Civilians fled outside the crossfire between warring parties, leading to the closure of the major Nyala market.

On another note, the Coordination Committee of the El Fasher Resistance reported that El Geneina city has witnessed over 1,100 casualties and more than 2,000 injuries. The committee added in its statement that 13 neighborhoods in the city have been almost entirely burned, amid the absence of healthcare services, scarcity of food supplies, and communication network disruption.

Earlier this week, the United Nations agency OCHA announced the crossing of approximately 14,000 Sudanese refugees into the Central African Republic, and the border trade has come to a halt due to the ongoing war.

The conflict, spreading across multiple areas in the Darfur states, threatens the ongoing agricultural season, which poses an imminent food catastrophe.
