Red Cross suspends the transportation of wounded soldiers following gunfire

Moatinoun - The International Red Cross stated that it was forced to suspend the process of transporting wounded soldiers to the hospital based on assurances from the conflicting parties in Sudan before proceeding with the operation.

The organization reported on its page that its convoy carrying the wounded came under gunfire near the front line before crossing it. It stated that this constitutes a violation of the ceasefire agreement.

According to the statement of the Sudanese Armed Forces, the gunfire occurred in the area of the Rapid Support Forces control. The statement accused the representatives of the Red Cross of not adhering to the agreed protocol for the evacuation operation. It added that the Red Cross delegation insisted on accompanying a representative of the Rapid Support Forces during the evacuation, which was considered a violation of the protocol.

In a statement, the Rapid Support Forces stated that its forces were attacked by the Sudanese Army while moving with the International Red Cross mission to evacuate a number of wounded individuals present at the military hospital in Bahri.

The conflicting parties had signed a ceasefire agreement in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday evening for a period of three days, which came into effect at 6:00 AM yesterday, Sunday.

The Red Cross called on the conflicting parties in Sudan to provide a safe humanitarian space, as the lives of many depend on it. It emphasized that international humanitarian law protects the wounded and medical personnel.
