Chad Accuses the International Community of Neglecting Sudanese Refugees

Chadian Prime Minister Saleh Kebzabo accused the international community on Saturday of neglecting its support for Sudanese refugees, stating that the support provided has not matched the noticeable mobilization in other places, leaving Chad almost alone in facing the reception of refugees and exhausting its own resources to the maximum extent. He emphasized that his government has swiftly and effectively taken on its responsibilities.

In a speech addressed to diplomats, humanitarian organizations, and charities present in the country, the Prime Minister called for an international conference or roundtable to mobilize funds to assist Chad in facing the multiple challenges related to refugee management during the rainy season.

According to the text of the Prime Ministers speech published by Al Salam newspaper, the eastern regions of Ennedi, Ouaddai, Dar Sila, and Wadi Fira are experiencing a massive influx of Sudanese refugees despite the establishment of 31 crossing points for their entry into these regions.

Prime Minister Saleh Kebzabo affirmed that this support would enable the provision of psychological, social, nutritional, healthcare, educational, and housing support to these refugees.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees had previously announced that over 100,000 Sudanese, mostly women and children from Darfur, had crossed the border into eastern Chad during a month and a half of conflict.

Earlier, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) warned of the challenges facing Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad, particularly with the approach of the rainy season and the disruption of roads, making it difficult for them to access the expected services.
