The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Wednesday that it facilitated the release of 125 soldiers from the Sudanese Armed Forces who were held by the Rapid Support Forces, upon the request of the conflict parties.

In a statement issued by the ICRC, it was clarified that their teams transported the released soldiers, including 44 wounded soldiers, from Khartoum to Wad Madani.

Jean-Christophe Sandos, the head of the ICRC mission in Sudan, stated, This positive step means that families will be able to celebrate Eid al-Adha with their loved ones. The ICRC remains ready to intervene as a neutral intermediary in the release operations of detainees from all conflict parties whenever requested.

The ICRC also facilitated the release of 14 wounded detainees in El Fasher, Darfur, on June 26. The ICRC works with conflict parties to evacuate the wounded affected by weapons.

The role of the ICRC, through its dialogue with all conflict parties, is to ensure the respect of humanitarian principles and the humane treatment of detainees throughout their release and transfer process. ICRC teams also assessed the health condition of the detainees and confirmed their ability to travel.
