Mass grave for victims in West Darfur

Moatinoon

The United Nations Office of Human Rights stated today, Thursday, that at least 87 individuals, some of them from the Masalit ethnic group, have been buried in a mass grave in West Darfur, Sudan.

The responsibility for their killings has been attributed to the Rapid Support Forces based on credible information.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, stated, I strongly condemn the killing of civilians and those unable to fight, and I am appalled by the brutal and degrading manner in which the victims, their families, and their communities have been treated.

He called for a prompt and comprehensive investigation.

Earlier, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that Sudan is on the verge of a large-scale civil war that could destabilize the region.

A report by Human Rights Watch on Tuesday accused the Rapid Support Forces of killing at least 40 civilians, including the execution of 28 individuals from the Masalit tribe in the city of Mistiri in West Darfur.
