The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that the rates of civilian displacement due to ongoing armed conflict in Sudan are alarming. It has revealed that nearly 200,000 people were displaced due to fighting within Sudan just last week, according to new figures released by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Since the beginning of the conflict, over 2.6 million people in Sudan have been internally displaced.

Meanwhile, over 730,000 people have fled across Sudans borders to neighboring countries since April 15, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

OCHA stated that the humanitarian community in Sudan continues to provide relief to those fleeing the fighting. In North Darfur, UNICEF and its partners are supporting water trucking to internally displaced persons gathering sites, as well as health care facilities. They have also constructed more than twenty latrines.

At the same time, the World Health Organization (WHO) is closely working with the Sudanese Ministry of Health and other partners in the states hosting internally displaced persons to provide sexual and reproductive health care, essential maternal and child care.

According to OCHA, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and its partners were able to deliver life-saving supplies, including 3,000 reproductive health kits, to six hospitals in Khartoum state yesterday. UNFPA is committed to providing urgent health and protection services to all vulnerable women and girls throughout Sudan.
