Sudans Children in Continuous Fear and Terror

A UN official in Sudan has stated that children in the country are enduring constant fear and terror due to severe psychological trauma caused by the ongoing war, according to the Arab World News Agency today, Friday. The official called on the conflicting parties to immediately cease the war.

The Regional Director of UNICEF in the Red Sea and Nile States of Sudan, Osman Sheiba Abu Fatima, revealed that around 435 children have lost their lives, and over two thousand others have been injured due to the ongoing fighting.

Save the Children organization mentioned last Tuesday that at least 498 children in Sudan, and potentially hundreds more, most of whom are displaced, have died of hunger due to food shortages or the shutdown of essential services.

Abu Fatima clarified that the children are in need of complex and urgent medical interventions.

He also indicated that nearly two million children have fled their homes from various areas in Khartoum and El Geneina to internal and external displacement areas.

His organization announced on Friday, August 25, that Sudan is witnessing the displacement of over 700 new children every hour.

He warned of the imminent collapse of the healthcare system in the Nile State due to the large number of displaced individuals, highlighting that the Nile State is one of the most heavily impacted states in Sudan, primarily due to its proximity to Khartoum. Most of the displaced individuals have been accommodated in host communities, schools, and government institutions.
