Volunteers have stepped in to address the shortage of medical staff at El Ban Jadeed Hospital in the East Nile area, east of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

More than 25 volunteers, including students, are working within the hospitals departments, which previously faced a severe shortage of medical personnel after the outbreak of conflict in mid-April last year.

Sources confirmed that El Ban Jadeed Hospital handles cases of cold illnesses, emergency injuries, and childbirth procedures. However, the kidney dialysis center has been suspended due to a severe shortage of essential medications.

El Ban Jadeed, located in the heart of Haj Yousif, is one of the oldest government hospitals providing health and medical services to over 20 neighborhoods and districts with high population density in the East Nile area.

Male and female volunteers, including students from colleges related to human medicine, are actively providing free patient services and facilitating treatment within the hospital. Additionally, a group of young volunteers has specialized in traveling to Wad Madani city to bring medicines, especially life-saving ones that are unavailable in the capital, Khartoum.

Recently, the organization Doctors Without Borders joined the efforts, providing a specialized doctor and several staff members, significantly contributing to improving the efficiency of medical care and expediting the treatment process.
