Following the destruction that affected the infrastructure and official state institutions due to the ongoing war in the capital, Khartoum, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, with the latters dominance over large parts of it according to the latest report of the United Nations and its mission in Khartoum, the de facto government led by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and his deputy Malik Aqar, along with a group of ministers, moved to the city of Port Sudan in eastern Sudan, away from the horrors of the war that civilians, residents of Khartoum, have endured, with most of them fleeing the country, while others have been displaced within Sudan.

At the same time, reports indicate that Al-Burhan intends to announce a new war government from Port Sudan, observers were surprised on Monday by an exchange of gunfire that did not last long, in the neighborhood of Dem Al-Madina in the center of the new capital, between forces affiliated with the movements and parties of the National Congress, led by General Shiba Darrar.

Arab news agencies reported that the Sudanese army exchanged gunfire on Monday in the city of Port Sudan in the east of the country with an armed group affiliated with a local leader.

Local sources reported that the gunfire resulted from the armys removal of a checkpoint belonging to the forces of the alliance of parties and movements in eastern Sudan, the National Congress Party, known as the forces of Shiba Darrar, in the neighborhood of Dem Al-Madina in the coastal city that has remained untouched by the war since it broke out in the country on April 15th of last year.

The same sources added that the details of the limited clash, which lasted for minutes, are related to the interception of a force from the Shiba Darrar forces to a relief convoy under the pretext that it did not carry official documents.

Intense debate is taking place among observers in eastern Sudan about large-scale corruption due to the flow of international and regional relief shipments to the victims of the war in Khartoum, Darfur, and other displacement cities, by the de facto government formed following the coup by Al-Burhan and Hemeti in 2021 on the transitional civilian government.

According to a statement issued by the Free Lions Group in eastern Sudan, received by Citizens, what happened on the evening of Monday, September 18th in Port Sudan, following Shiba Darrars talk about the natural rights of the people of eastern Sudan, resulted from the intelligence forces storming some headquarters and offices of political parties and movements and the arrest of a number of civilian activists. Prior to that, they had arrested a number of leaders of civil society in Kassala, headed by Suleiman Ali, the former governor of the Kassala State during the transitional civilian government.

The statement warned that the city of Port Sudan and all the cities of the east are not safe, as the army leaders and their allies in the Islamic Movement are expected to end the interim central government and establish an alternative capital in Port Sudan or any other city in the east to carry out the same dirty tasks that this group has been performing in Khartoum until it was reduced to rubble, according to the statement.

Political analysts consider that what happened on Monday night in Port Sudan is nothing but the natural results of the neglect of the official army and the reliance on tribal and regional militias to settle military battles with political opponents. They also consider that the experience of the Popular Defense Forces, the Border Guards, the Rapid Support Forces, and shadow battalions like Baraa bin Malik and others are among the biggest national crimes of the Islamic Movement in Sudan.
