Sudan: targeting journalists and trade unionists from both sides of the war

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) arrested Algadh correspondent Mohammad Ibrahim al-Hajj from his home in Al-Jarif district west of Khartoum and took him to an unidentified destination.

In a statement yesterday, the Sudanese Journalists syndicate said it feared for the safety of Algadhs detained reporter in rapid support and demanded his immediate release.

The statement noted that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had been firing at news agency reporters in flagrant violation of all international laws and treaties that prevented the violation and abuse of journalists and journalists freedom.

He called on local and international human rights organizations and the defence of freedom of expression to put pressure on the war parties not to be exposed to journalists and to allow them to cover the countrys war.

The Union Front condemned the arrest of Sami al-Baqer, spokesman for the Teachers Committee and its representative in the Union Front by military intelligence in Port Sudan yesterday. The statement by the union called for his immediate release and for the detainee to be held fully responsible for his safety and health.

The union statement, which includes several trade union organizations, warned against targeting trade unionists and civilian activists and carried out what was happening to them by the security and military authorities.
