Sudan war spreading as death toll tops 9,000

At least 10 people were killed on Saturday by rockets fired by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) into the Jabal Aollya area south of Khartoum. By October, over 9,000 deaths had been recorded through the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, ACLED reported late Friday, confirming that its estimates were conservative.

Bombs fell inside civilian homes in a small village about 50 kilometres south of the city, the local resistance committee, Jebel Aollya, said.

The Commission in Jabal Aollya reported that RSF had fired heavy artillery at the town, in its recent attack on areas that had previously survived fighting between rival Sudanese generals.

The fighting displaced nearly 4.3 million people inside the Sudan, as well as about 1.2 million others who fled across the border.

In recent weeks, RSF activity has spread to the south, threatening the fragile safety of more than 366 thousand people who have taken refuge in the islands state south of the capital. In the East Nile area, RSF attacked the El-Afoun area on Thursday, displacing thousands of people from the area in the direction of Al-Jazeera State, and displacements continue as of this afternoon.

Witnesses reported that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had set up checkpoints along the road between Khartoum and the capital of Al-Jazeera State Madani, 200 kilometres south of the capital.
