The film Goodbye Julia will start showing in Egyptian cinemas starting from October 25th.

The screening comes after the great successes the film has achieved in international and regional festivals, most notably the Cannes Film Festival last year.

The Sudanese committee has chosen the film to represent Sudan in the Oscars for next year. The film has won 7 international and regional awards, the most recent of which were the (Press) and (Audience) awards at the War on Screen Festival in France. The Sudanese film Goodbye Julia, directed by Mohamed Kordofani and produced by Amjad Abu Al-Ela, won two new awards in its career during the 11th edition of the War on Screen Festival in France, winning the Audience Award and the Press Award, bringing its total to 7 international awards.

The film has had many international successes, as Sudan has chosen it to represent it in the 96th Oscars ceremony for the best international film for 2024, and it also won 3 international awards at the Paysages de Cinéastes Festival, namely the Rising Jury Award, the Audience Award, and the Womens Jury Award. It also won the Best African Film Award at the Septimus International Awards. It is worth mentioning that the films journey with awards began at the Cannes International Film Festival, where it won the Freedom Award and had its world premiere.

It is expected to have its launch in the Arab world from the El Gouna Film Festival, where it competes for the Golden Gouna Star Award, and the Cinema for Humanity Award. It will also open the next edition of the Palestine Cinema Days.

It is also scheduled that Goodbye Julia will have its premiere in the United Kingdom at the London Film Festival, and it is noteworthy that all the tickets for its shows were sold out a month before the festivals launch. The film also participated in the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Since the films launch at the Cannes Festival, it has been praised by the international media, with Fabien Lemercier writing on the Cineuropa website, The director explores the conflicts in his country through an intimate female story, while the French AFP website described the film as a bold display of the undercurrent of racism, while Hwida Hamdi said about the film, A quiet poem that tries to unravel chronic knots and a history of prejudice and racism.

The events of Goodbye Julia take place in Khartoum before the souths secession, where Mona, a northern woman living with her husband Akram, causes the death of a southern man, then hires his wife Julia, who is searching for him as a maid in her house and helps her in an attempt to purify herself from the feeling of guilt.

The film is directed and written by Mohamed Kordofani, who has won many awards, starring the theater actress and singer Iman Youssef, the famous model and former Miss South Sudan, Siran Riaq, and co-starring veteran actor Nizar Gomaa.
