The Ninth Iowa Conference for Peace and Democracy concluded its work yesterday in the Greater Washington area. The conference, which brought together representatives of political forces, resistance committees, and public figures from the Sudanese community in the United States, coincided with the civil movement to stop the war in Sudan and restore the democratic path.

The conference attendees addressed a number of issues related to the necessity of creating a united civilian front. Two officials from the U.S. administration, who participated in part of the conference, presented their countrys vision, strategy, and perspective towards Sudan. They confirmed Washingtons support for an inclusive political process led by civilians to shape Sudans future.

The official from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) mentioned providing support to Sudan exceeding 800 million in 2023, in response to urgent humanitarian situations in Sudan.

The conference resulted in a set of recommendations, the most prominent of which are stopping the war, restoring the democratic path, and unifying initiatives to solve the Sudanese crisis.

The conference participants emphasized the implementation of justice, which includes holding accountable the planners of the June 30, 1989 coup, those responsible for the crime of dispersing the sit-in in front of the General Command, and the leaders of the October 25, 2021 coup, as well as prosecuting those involved in igniting the war.
