The ongoing battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have claimed the lives of about 16 people and injured several others in the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, yesterday.

Eyewitnesses said that the random shelling that hit the Congo neighborhood in the city left a number of dead and injured.

The random shelling led to dozens of displaced people in Nyalas shelters participating in protest stands. They revealed the tragic conditions they live in, demanding that officials and humanitarian organizations intervene to provide food and medicine for them and their children.

The city of Nyala has witnessed today, and in the past two days, fierce battles between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, in which heavy weapons were used.

Citizens reports indicate an escalation in the battles, in which the Rapid Support Forces aim to control the command of the 16th Division in Nyala, while the Sudanese army has intensified its air strikes on the Rapid Support Forces positions in the city.
