Evacuation of ``Mygoma Children`` for the Second Time

The United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF) announced on Wednesday that it safely evacuated 253 infants and children from transit centers in Wad Madani to a safer location in the country. The evacuation process took two days without providing details.

The organization explained that the evacuation of children was due to the outbreak of fighting in the Gezira state this month. This marks the second time they have been evacuated, following a previous evacuation from the Mygoma orphanage in Khartoum earlier this year after the outbreak of the war in April.

In early June of last year, UNICEF safely transported 297 children from the Mygoma orphanage shelter in Khartoum to a temporary center in Wad Madani after they were besieged by fighting in their home in the capital, Khartoum.

Mandip OBrian, UNICEFs representative in Sudan, said, "Safe passage has become possible thanks to the cooperation of the conflict parties and the support of key partners. Children are out of the firing line once again." He added, "As long as the fighting continues, no child in Sudan will be truly safe."

He further emphasized, "This serves as a harsh reminder of the ongoing losses that war inflicts on children." The organization states that the war in Sudan has displaced 3 million children, making it the largest displacement of children in the world.
