A Sudanese voluntary human rights group stated that the military intelligence of the armed forces has been conducting political arrests over two days, targeting politicians, activists, and members of the emergency rooms that provide humanitarian aid to civilians and displaced people.

The "Emergency Lawyers" group clarified in a statement on Thursday that the arrests took place in the cities of Karkouj, the Dinder locality in the Sennar state, the Gedaref state, and the Merowe locality in the Northern state. However, it did not specify the exact number, but mentioned that the arrests are politically motivated, based on regional and tribal affiliations, and are carried out "in a degrading manner to human dignity, involving blindfolding, beating, and personal insults with offensive language."

A member of the media committee of the Sudanese Teachers Committee, not named, was quoted by the "Sudan Tribune" website as saying that the army intelligence and Rapid Support Forces have launched a new wave of arrests, detaining 7 teachers in several states, including the states of Sennar, Khartoum, and Al-Qadarif.

Emergency lawyers had mentioned in a statement on December 24 that military intelligence arrested 12 individuals in the cities of Sennar, Al-Qadarif, Kassala, and White Nile. The arrested individuals included political activists, members of the teachers committee, civil society activists, resistance committees, and journalists.

Both the Emergency Lawyers group and the Teachers Committee held the parties involved in the arrests responsible for the safety of the detainees and called for their immediate release.
