The organization monitoring conflict data worldwide stated that the total number of armed confrontations in Sudan since the beginning of the war in April last year reached 4,000, resulting in the death of more than 13,000 people.

The death toll surpasses the previous figure announced by the organization by a thousand deaths and also exceeds another statistic declared by the United Nations at the beginning of last December, stating that the number of casualties in the Sudan war reached 12,190 people.

The organization "Conflict Site and Event Data Project - ACLED," in its latest report published on Friday, explained that 720 deaths were recorded in just 41 days from November 25, 2023, to January 5, 2024, in 640 clashes that occurred during this short period.

The organization added that most of the recorded violent events during the above period took place in Khartoum state, with 440 clashes resulting in 315 deaths. The second-highest number of violent events was reported in the Gezira state, where more than 70 clashes and over 110 deaths were recorded.

Regarding the nature of the clashes, the organization mentioned that artillery and aerial bombardment are the most common, with 323 attacks, followed by battles with 235, and violence against civilians with 80 incidents.

The organization clarified that the intensity of the battles decreased by 7% compared to the previous six weeks, while aerial bombardment attacks increased by 56%.

The organization warned that the situation in Sudan has become "extremely volatile," noting that the unexpected fall of Gezira adds a new level of complexity to the conflict.
