In a report on Wednesday, the United Nations announced a massive exodus from the city of Babanosa in western Kordofan, amid continued clashes between Sudanese military forces and rapid support elements without hope of a near breakthrough of the crisis.

According to the report of the organizations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), there has been a large-scale displacement from Babnosa neighbourhoods and towns in western Kordofan as fighting continues.

The report stated that clashes between the army and rapid support took place at the military headquarters of the President of the army and in the neighbourhoods of "Al-Nasr" and "Abu Ismail" in Babnosa, West Kordofan. The number of displaced persons had not yet been ascertained, while the situation remained tense and unpredictable.

On Wednesday, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell expressed concern about ethnic violence in the Sudan, warning that its expansion in the region was becoming a "real danger."

Following his meeting with the United Nations Secretary-Generals envoy to the Sudan, Ramtan Lamamra, Borrell said on the X-podium that the Sudan had the largest number of internally displaced persons in the world.

He also stressed that it was unacceptable that the Sudan crisis, which he described as the worst in Africa, should be a "second-class priority on the international communitys agenda".

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that the war in Sudan has created "the worlds largest displacement crisis, with nearly 10 million displaced people, including more than 2 million children spread across more than 7 thousand displacement sites within the country", days after an American observatory classified the Sudanese crisis as "the worst 10 of violence around the world." The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in the latest report of the "Displacement Tracking Matrix" issued on Wednesday that "the number of displaced persons in the Sudan as of the end of last December is close to 10 million people."
