The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, has arrived in Port Sudan, where he is scheduled to meet with families who have been forced to flee.

In a tweet on its official account on the AX platform, the UNHCR stated that Grandi will directly assess the impact of the conflict and meet with families who have been compelled to flee.

The UNHCR emphasized that Sudan urgently needs global support to address the crisis and growing needs, with nearly 8 million displaced individuals within the last 9 months.

Grandi spent three days in Ethiopia, during which he met with Sudanese refugees and gained insights into the efforts made by the Ethiopian government, with support from the UNHCR and its partners, to assist Sudanese refugees who recently arrived in the country.

Grandis visit coincides with the visit of the EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, to the neighboring country of Chad, where he announced new financial support to cover urgent assistance and needs for displaced persons and refugees in Chad and Sudan.
