Djibouti Telecommunications company, "Djibouti Telecom," experienced a cyber attack today by the "Anonymous Sudan" hackers.

The Internet monitoring organization, NetBlocks, stated in a tweet on the X platform that Djibouti witnessed an internet outage that significantly affected Djibouti Telecom. The hacking group Anonymous Sudan announced a "catastrophic cyber attack" targeting the government-owned telecommunications company due to the countrys ties with the quasi-military group, the Rapid Support Forces.

Threadmon, a company, reported that a cyber attack by Anonymous Sudan hackers targeted the state-owned Djibouti Telecom, resulting in a complete internet outage for the company. All internet users in Djibouti lost access to the internet.

The group "Anonymous Sudan," which emerged last year claiming to be Sudanese and based in Sudan, has an unclear actual nature. Some cybersecurity experts believe the group may operate from Russia or receive support from there. Despite the name similarity, the group denies any connection with the old hacking group Anonymous, according to the BBC.

The hackers stated that the attack was in response to "Djibouti granting diplomatic legitimacy to the Rapid Support Forces as the head of the IGAD organization."

Djibouti Telecom has not issued a response to the attack, and it is unclear whether communications have returned to normal.

Yesterday, the company released a statement warning that unknown individuals had launched a forged version of its official page, urging its customers to be vigilant. However, the statement did not clarify whether the forged version was a website or a Facebook page.
