Authorities in the White Nile state have reportedly detained 126 refugees from South Sudan, according to a UN report.

The High Commissioner for Refugees, in its latest periodic report, stated that the Commissions partner, Goodwill Cooperatives, a national organization for consultations and legal services in the field of violence, reported that 126 refugees from South Sudan have been detained in the White Nile state on charges of various crimes, including involvement in the ongoing conflict.

The Commission clarified that it is monitoring detention cases in collaboration with Goodwill Cooperatives, working closely with camp managers and community networks in the camps to raise awareness among refugees and others about the civilian nature of asylum.

Meanwhile, it was reported that three sites were opened in the Rabaq locality of the White Nile state to gather internally displaced persons from the Gezira state, noting that there are more than 490 sites for gathering displaced persons in the state.

The Commission pointed out that the increasing number of internally displaced persons in the state still poses significant challenges, including competition for resources, emphasizing that humanitarian aid is not sufficient to meet the needs of both displaced persons and host communities.
