US Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, is set to begin a tour in several African and Arab countries regarding the conflict in Sudan, starting on Monday.

This is Perriellos first international visit since his appointment as a special envoy to Sudan about two weeks ago.

The US State Department said in a statement on its website that Tom Perriello will head to Africa and the Middle East from March 11 to 23, as part of the US administrations focus on ending the ongoing conflict in Sudan, meeting the urgent humanitarian needs of the Sudanese people, and charting a path towards a civilian and democratic government.

The ministry added that the special envoy will meet in Kampala, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Cairo with a wide range of Sudanese civilians, including members of civil society, resistance committees, members of the "Emergency Response Room" network, women, youth, and other Sudanese popular organizations, to listen to their views on how to enhance emergency response efforts, demand an end to the conflict, and prepare for the democratic transition in Sudan.

He will also visit Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, and Djibouti to meet key African, regional, and multilateral partners to unify efforts aimed at ending the destructive conflict in Sudan.

The envoys visit comes after the UN Security Councils decision last Friday, in which it called on the warring parties in Sudan to cease hostilities during Ramadan and intensify the African Unions high-level mechanism for Sudan, appointed by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mohamed in January.
