The Emergency Response Room in Bahri and the Idea Center for Studies and Development announced on Sunday the death of Omar Ali Munawar, the official responsible for overseeing the community kitchens supervised by the Bahri Emergency Room.

Bahri Emergency Room said in a statement that Omar passed away due to a medical condition caused by the lack of clean drinking water and the absence of healthcare facilities.

"Our companion Omar was one of the main pillars in overseeing the work of community kitchens and opening new kitchens to feed the besieged citizens in Bahri. He continued to work in the darkest conditions to provide the requirements for the operation of the kitchens, despite the communication disruptions and the ongoing security harassment by the warring forces," it added, noting that Omars brother had been missing since September 2023.

The Idea Center tweeted on the X platform, describing the deceased as one of the pillars of the brave humanitarian response duties undertaken by emergency rooms and local volunteers since the outbreak of the accursed war in our country on April 15, 2023.

The deceased was described as one of Sudans unknown heroes, highlighting their role in assisting citizens in conflict areas, saying, "These heroes are the only active mechanism still providing humanitarian relief to Sudanese men and women, and their support is a duty owed to everyone concerned about Sudanese affairs."

Bahri Emergency Room manages 59 community kitchens in the Bahri area of Khartoum since the outbreak of the war in April last year, to feed more than 5,500 families in the city. These kitchens are part of 300 kitchens managed by emergency rooms across Khartoum State, according to Bahri Emergency Rooms page.
