The representative of the European Unions Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell Fontelles, and the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, stated in their joint speech yesterday titled "Its Time to Stop the Man-Made Disaster in Sudan" that one of our main goals today is to prevent the famine that threatens Sudan and to support the countries and communities that have received people fleeing from the horrors of war.

They added that the available aid, which is being withheld by warring parties for political reasons, must reach those in need wherever they are. They warned that such wartime practices violate international law and may be classified as war crimes.

The officials said, "We also expect the leaders of the warring parties to respond to calls to stop this massacre and come to the negotiating table. Failing to do so will have serious consequences."

They added, "We tirelessly call for an immediate ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access, and a return to the path of democratic transition in Sudan."

They also called for the Paris Conference, scheduled for the middle of the month to mobilize funding for humanitarian aid, to be "a collective call for peace, and a way to take more comprehensive, coordinated, and effective action by Europe, Africa, and the international community regarding Sudan."

They emphasized that the European Union will continue to engage with the parties to the conflict from a neutral position that prioritizes peace and respect for the lives and rights of civilians, stating that the European Unions consistent position is to stand with civilians and the hope they place in their country.

They also affirmed the European Unions readiness to assist Sudan in these difficult circumstances alongside regional and international partners.

The officials stated, "We always support African solutions to African problems. As Sudan enters its second year of this catastrophic war, we look to the region to assume responsibility."
