Britain announces new sanctions on Sudanese business entities

The United Kingdom announced on Monday new sanctions on companies "supporting the activities of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, and military groups behind the conflict in Sudan." This is the second time Britain has imposed sanctions on Sudanese commercial entities, having previously targeted six other companies in July of last year.

The sanctions included the Gulf Bank, Al-Fakhir Advanced Business Company Limited, and Red Rock Mining Company.

The British government stated that the Gulf Bank and Al-Fakhir Advanced Business Company support and finance the Rapid Support Forces to continue fighting, while Red Rock Mining Company provides funds to the Sudanese Armed Forces.

It added that the latter company is affiliated with Sudan Master Technology, which is linked to the defense industries system, the economic and manufacturing arm of the Sudanese Armed Forces, and was sanctioned in July last year.

Foreign Secretary David Cameron said, "This monstrous war has destroyed peoples lives. A year after the fighting began, we continue to witness terrible atrocities against civilians, unacceptable restrictions on humanitarian access, and complete disregard for civilian lives."

He added, "Companies that support warring parties, along with those responsible for human rights violations, must be held accountable. The world must not forget Sudan. We urgently need to end the violence."
