UNICEF: Future of Sudanese Children at Stake

moatinoon
UNICEF has called for empowering them to reach assistance to millions of children and not politicizing aid, warning that Sudanese children are on the brink due to a devastating war.

The organization explained that around 4 million children under the age of five are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition this year, and more than 90% of school-aged children, numbering 19 million in the country, cannot access formal education. UNICEF highlighted that the lives, education, and future of Sudanese children are at stake.

In a statement on Monday marking one year since the war in Sudan, it was mentioned that ongoing hostilities have led to a five-fold increase in reports of serious violations of child rights from 2022 to 2023, especially child recruitment and use by armed forces and groups, as well as killings, mutilation, and sexual violence against children.

UNICEFs Deputy Executive Director, Ted Chaiban, stated, "If immediate steps are not taken to stop violence, facilitate humanitarian access, and provide life-saving aid to those in need, a worst-case scenario is likely to impact children for many years to come."
