The Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Samantha Power, announced on Friday that the United States has allocated 200 million for ready-to-use therapeutic foods to treat severe acute malnutrition and wasting.

These foods will be distributed to several countries, including Sudan, through the United Nations agencies UNICEF and the World Food Programme.

Power stated that these life-saving specialized nutritious foods will be distributed to those in dire need around the world, including Sudan, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Gaza, and Ethiopia.

Ready-to-use therapeutic foods are considered one of the most effective treatments for wasting.

Sudan was one of the largest producers of this type of food from the "Samil Foods" factory, which has been affected by the ongoing war.

Established through a Sudanese-French partnership, "Samil" manufactured peanut paste to treat malnutrition in children, and its production capacity increased from 1,200 to 10,000 tons over nine years, according to the French Embassy in Khartoum.
