Today, Sunday, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, confirmed that two children who were in the intensive care unit at the Southern Hospital in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, died as a result of the collapse of the roof of the medical unit.

In a tweet on the AX platform, Griffiths said, "An airstrike near a hospital for children supported by Médecins Sans Frontières led to the destruction of the roof above the intensive care unit, resulting in the deaths of two children."

Griffiths added, "We have informed all parties how they should protect civilians from this massacre. We can now expect them to do what the world and international humanitarian law expect of them."

The international officials statements came after a statement issued by the French Médecins Sans Frontières organization yesterday, Saturday, which stated, "An airstrike by the Sudanese Armed Forces, 50 meters away from the Babiker Nihar Childrens Hospital in El Fasher, North Darfur, led to the collapse of the roof above the intensive care unit, resulting in the deaths of two children and an attendant."

The organization said that the Babiker Nihar Childrens Hospital received patients from all over the Darfur region and is now unable to operate.

The statement clarified, "On Friday, May 10, fierce fighting broke out between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces near the Childrens Hospital, causing all 115 children who entered the hospital to flee and seek shelter in other health facilities, especially in the Southern El Fasher Hospital."

The organization added, "Ten children were still present on Saturday when the explosion destroyed the roof of the intensive care unit, resulting in the deaths of two of them."

The organization also confirmed the death of another 25 among 160 wounded, who were received by the Southern Hospital for treatment on Friday, including 31 women and 19 children. The deceased had suffered serious injuries and died upon arrival at the hospital.

On Friday, about 27 people were killed and 130 were injured in clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the city of El Fasher in Darfur, more than a year after the outbreak of the war between the two conflicting parties over power, according to a statement from the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinators Office on Sunday.

Agence France-Presse quoted a medical source at the Southern El Fasher Hospital, the only one still operating in the city, as saying, "The morgue is filled to the brim with bodies."
