Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) announced on Sunday the death of one of its staff members in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, after his home was shelled on Saturday.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the organization said, "One of our team members in El Fasher, Sudan, was killed yesterday (Saturday) after shelling hit his home located near the citys main market."

The statement clarified that the deceased was "one of the guards at our pharmacy and was off-duty when the shelling occurred."

The organization added, "He was immediately transported to the southern hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries."

Doctors Without Borders also mentioned that many of their staff have lost family members or homes due to the ongoing shelling in the city. They noted that in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, they have treated over 930 injured people since the fighting in the city began more than two weeks ago.

The organization reported that the death toll from the fighting in El Fasher has reached at least 123, indicating the intensity of the conflict. They urged the warring parties to make greater efforts to protect civilians.

The humanitarian organization reiterated its call for the warring factions to safeguard civilians.

El Fasher has been the scene of fierce battles for several days between the army and its allies and the Rapid Support Forces, which have imposed a tight siege on the city and are attempting to seize control.

Last Thursday, Adam Rajal, the spokesperson for the Darfur Displaced and Refugees Coordination, stated that 60 percent of the displaced people in the Abu Shouk camp in El Fasher, North Darfur, had fled due to the ongoing battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Abu Shouk camp is one of the three largest camps, along with Salam and Zamzam camps. It is located 4 kilometers northwest of El Fasher and houses displaced persons from various regions of the state.
