Darfur Displaced Camps Coordination: Violence, Hunger, and Siege Intensify Citizens Suffering

The General Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugees Camps in Darfur stated that the increase in violence in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, the complete siege of the city by warring factions, the use of food as a weapon against the population, and the intense inspections and interrogations, including questions about tribal affiliations at the city gates, have all exacerbated the humanitarian, health, and security conditions in the city and the region as a whole.

Adam Rajal, the official spokesperson for the General Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugees, said in a statement on Saturday that the displaced in Darfurs camps are deprived of basic life necessities such as food, medicine, and water, and are condemned to die from hunger, deliberate random shelling by the warring factions, airstrikes, direct gunfire, or physical violence.

Rajal condemned the severe and horrific human rights violations occurring in El Fasher against the displaced and citizens. He called on the warring parties to implement a temporary or permanent ceasefire for moral and humanitarian reasons, particularly in Darfur and generally in Sudan. He urged the international community to find alternatives as soon as possible to protect the unarmed citizens of Darfur and called on Sudanese citizens to work earnestly to end the war.
