UNICEF: Childrens Needs in Sudan Are Enormous

moatinoon
The United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF) has stated that the needs of children in Sudan are immense as the country heads towards a humanitarian disaster of epic proportions. The organization has appealed to the international community for funding to sustain its efforts to care for millions of the most vulnerable children.

In a statement released on Wednesday, UNICEF emphasized that it is focusing its emergency efforts on 93 localities where the situation has reached the third and fourth levels of food insecurity classification, experiencing the highest rates of acute malnutrition. The ongoing conflict in the country is pushing towards famine and catastrophic loss of life. Level four of food insecurity is the last level before famine is declared.

UNICEF has called for 840 million in funding for 2024 to sustain and expand life-saving services and resilience-building efforts for 7.6 million of the most vulnerable children.
