Sudanese Journalists Syndicate: Female Journalists Threatened with Death

moatinoon
The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate has reported that journalists are facing death threats both inside and outside Sudan, with some living in dire conditions in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. The syndicate has called for their protection and urged both parties in the conflict, along with their allies in El Fasher, to respect international humanitarian law and allow journalists in the city to leave through a safe corridor.

The syndicate condemned the threats made against journalist Sabah Ahmed on social media, where she has been accused of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and had her life threatened. Similar threats have been directed at journalist Zamzam Khater in Uganda.

In a statement, the syndicate explained that the threats against Sabah Ahmed were made by individuals on social media. Sabah Ahmed had been detained by the RSF in March at a public internet service location (Star Link) in a village in Al Jazirah state. She was questioned for six hours before being released and subsequently moved to areas controlled by the army.

The syndicate also called for the protection of journalist Saleh Abu Allama in East Darfur state.

Furthermore, the syndicate reported that several colleagues in El Fasher, North Darfur, are facing extremely poor conditions amidst the ongoing battles between the army and the RSF in the city.
