Many children and elderly are missing after displacement from Sinja

Activists social media pages were filled with appeals announcing the loss of a large number of citizens after the RSF took control of the city since yesterday.

Many Facebook and X accounts continue to report the loss of dozens of children and the elderly after the large wave of displacement in Medea and its neighbouring cities and villages, in anticipation of expected attacks and violations caused by excessive security.

On Sunday, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced the displacement of more than 55 thousand people from Sinja and nearby villages in Sennar, southern Sudan, as a result of clashes between the army and "rapid support" forces.

The organization said in a statement that "armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces continued to deploy through Sennar State, and clashes were reported in the city of Sinja."

"Field teams reported that some 55 thousand and 440 people had been displaced from Sinja and nearby villages, as well as from various locations in Abu Hajjar and Dali areas of Sennar State, due to growing security concerns."

Some 50 thousand people had been displaced to areas of Al-Qadarif State, while another 5 thousands had been displaced to the city of Damazin in Blue Nile, and about 440 had been displaced to the city of Jabalin in White Nile State.

The statement noted that "the situation remains tense and unpredictable."
