The United Nations has reported that unidentified armed assailants attacked World Food Programme (WFP) trucks in Sudan on Sunday. These trucks were carrying vital food aid meant for thousands of civilians in Central Darfur.

In an official statement, the UN disclosed that three trucks loaded with food supplies were looted by the attackers. The organization has called on local authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable and to guarantee the safe delivery of aid.

Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, expressed her outrage over the incident. In a post on the platform X (formerly Twitter), she stated, "The looted aid from the WFP convoy in Central Darfur will no longer reach the most vulnerable and needy individuals."

This attack occurs amidst an escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan, fueled by ongoing conflict between rival military factions. The prolonged warfare has left the nation teetering on the brink of famine.
