The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that joint teams from its Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office and country branches in Sudan and Chad have met in Adré, Chad, as part of efforts to intensify operations to address the escalating needs of the Sudanese people.

In a statement released today on its X platform, WHO noted that the needs of the Sudanese population are increasing at an alarming rate, creating a widespread humanitarian crisis and untold suffering. In response, WHO is ramping up its efforts through collaborative work across its regional and country offices.

The statement explained that the joint team is working to understand and meet the needs of both refugees and the host communities in Chad.

The mission, described as crucial, aims to "expand cross-border operations into Darfur, which is experiencing unimaginable violence, with many areas at risk of famine, and to bolster global support and solidarity for Sudan."

Hundreds of people in dire need of assistance are crossing the border into Chad daily from Sudan. They walk for several days, having lost their homes, friends, and family members, fleeing ongoing violence, severe hunger, and catastrophic food insecurity. They arrive in Adré suffering from severe physical and mental trauma.
