"Foreign Policy" magazine revealed that the administration of President Joe Biden is working on "renewing the peace process in Sudan" and will launch a new initiative to end the war in Sudan through peace talks starting in mid-August. This comes after months of behind-the-scenes negotiations, according to current and former officials.

Switzerland and Saudi Arabia will host high-level talks next month, according to the magazine. It added that the anticipated talks, if agreed upon by the parties, will be chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

The magazine revealed the intention to invite other regional powers and institutions relevant to the conflict in Sudan, including the United Nations, the African Union, Egypt, and the UAE, to monitor the talks.

U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan Tom Perriello is scheduled to brief Congress this week on the plans for the negotiations, as Perriello will participate in persuading senior negotiators from both sides of the conflict to attend the talks.
