WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom said on Friday that the attack on the main hospital in El Fasher, the capital of Northern Darfur state, killed 9 patients and their escorts and injured 20 others.

"Yesterdays attack on the main hospital in El Fasher, Sudan, left 9 people dead and 20 injured among patients and their escorts," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X on Saturday. "These ongoing attacks on health throughout the Sudan are regrettable."

The UN official called for "the protection of all patients and health workers and the cessation of all attacks on health institutions and their surroundings".

According to AFP news agency, after the attack, activities at the main hospital were completely halted on Saturday. The doctor stated, requesting anonymity for his safety, that "the hospital has stopped working completely". The attack "hit areas where patients families were gathering as well as key areas of the hospital."

The Fasher Resistance Committee coordinator said the raids destroyed wards, pharmacies and the hospitals operating room, and brought mass kitchens to a standstill.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) yesterday targeted the "Saudi Hospital" with an unmanned aerial vehicle with four high explosive missiles, leaving martyrs and wounds from escorts and injured people and destroying wards, pharmacies and the hospitals operating room.

The United Nations continues to warn of the situation that has left tens of thousands of civilians dead, displaced more than 11 million Sudanese and plunged the country into the worst humanitarian crisis in recent years.

Since last May, RSF has been striking a blockade of El Fasher, the capital of Northern Darfur State.
