Collapse of Paper Press in Sudan

By: Abdullah Rizk Abusimaza
In recent years, the Sudans paper press has seen a rapid collapse, worsening sharply after the outbreak of war. This crisis was not the birth of the moment, but its roots took root more than a decade ago, as many newspapers stopped publishing for complex economic and political reasons. But the latest war was set up on the remainder of the paper press industry, leaving journalists facing harsh and unprecedented unemployment.

Unemployment of journalists is not a new phenomenon, but has been deepened by the countrys economic and political crises. A decade ago, newspapers such as Days, Khartoum, The Setzin and others stopped publishing. In the past five years, it has been joined by prominent newspapers such as processions and the last moment. This has displaced hundreds of journalists who have joined the ranks of the unemployed in an unprecedented phenomenon.

Although moving to electronic journalism may be an option for these institutions, the challenges remain significant. This transformation requires competitiveness in a global market, producing premium content that ensures the sustainability of resources through advertising. However, weak infrastructure and high operating costs, even in cyberspace, make this option a very difficult challenge.
