Actors and Musicians Loving Messages in Wartime

Moatinoon
Jumps here and there, laughter and banter, songs and music, and a life of hope, overcome the lives of the displaced people of drama, theatre and music.

They live together in a shelter centre in Port Sudan, and their lives are very different from the rest of the centres. They broadcast messages of hope, through music, drama and theatre, some of whom authored new dramas and music.

Although they live with the suffering of war and displacement, they alleviate the suffering of displaced persons in other centres, with their occasional offers.

Director Mohammed Makhawi said he had produced a series of dramas within the shelter centre and had begun to monitor Sudanese popular ideals, in response to the request of Professor Tayeb Zayn al-Abidin, an idea since the mid-1990s. The conditions of war and living in shelters had led him to write new series and dramas that had been completed so far.

Representative Abdussalam Gloud said that, at present, in the circumstances of war and displacement, they were producing targeted dramas, raising awareness among displaced persons, in how to deal within shelters, avoiding the damage of living in such a shelter, especially since the environment was vulnerable to disease due to crowding, handling of personal and other items, and said they were broadcasting positive messages among displaced persons.

Actor Ibrahim Kumi added that their messages were to renounce hate speech and racism, pointing out that they had performed theatrical performances that promoted peaceful coexistence and mental health, as well as musical performances by the folk band Ahalina.

Dramas and theatrists at the Rabat Centre in Port Sudan see them as having played significant roles in broadcasting messages necessary to stop the war, while at the same time drawing a smile on a displaced persons face.
