Doctors at Indian Hospital save critically-ill Sudanese newborn

Doctors at Niloufer Hospital have successfully revived a critically-ill newborn boy from Sudan. The child, who had been diagnosed with severe blood and brain infections at birth, as well as lung complications, has fully recovered after a month of intensive treatment, doctors said.

The Sudanese couple came to Hyderabad a year ago seeking help with in-vitro fertilisation (IVF). After undergoing the procedure at a private hospital, the woman, 43, gave birth to a boy in November. However, the joy of childbirth was overshadowed by the infant’s critical condition. Due to financial constraints, the couple could not continue treatment at the private facility and turned to Niloufer Hospital for help.

“The baby was admitted to the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU), where he received round-the-clock care for six days, followed by further treatment for a month,” said neonatologist Swapna, who led the medical team for the boy’s treatment.
