Moatinoon
The UN Security Council will hold its first session of 2025 on Monday to discuss the humanitarian situation in Sudan.
The most recent session on Sudan, chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, took place on December 19, 2024. The session debated a draft resolution by the UK and Sierra Leone calling for a ceasefire, civilian protection, and humanitarian corridors in Sudan. However, the resolution failed to pass due to a Russian veto, despite support from 14 member states.
The upcoming session, under Algerias presidency for January 2025, is expected to include a biannual briefing by International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan on the courts activities related to the Darfur region.
