The General Coordinator of Refugee and Displaced Persons Camps in Darfur said that Sudanese Army aviation had shelled displaced persons camps in Darfur in a devastating and brutal manner.
In a press release, copies of which were received by "citizens", Vaperno camp in Kutum locality, Northern Darfur, on Sunday evening, reported aerial bombardment that killed and injured eight people, including four women who were immediately martyred. A number of the injured were also injured of varying gravity, as well as extensive destruction of homes and shelters.
In her statement, the Coordinator stated that three sisters had lost their lives in the tragedy: congratulations, Mecca and Omar Abder.
In her statement, the Coordinator added that such crimes against unarmed civilians were a flagrant violation of all humanitarian laws and customs. The shelling of the Fataberno camp was not the first incident, preceded by the shelling of the Abu Shouk and Zamzam camps, where the displaced persons camps were severely violated by rapid support, in which they committed horrific crimes against innocent people.
Such actions reflected unprecedented cruelty, particularly targeting women and children, and none of the conflicting parties appeared to respond to international and regional appeals to halt such actions, highlighting the nature of the parties ideologies of extremism that supported such a devastating conflict.
In the context, Coordinator Adams official spokesman condemned the deliberate artillery shelling of the Zamzam displaced persons camp in Northern Darfur by rapid support behind the martyrs and wounded last Khambs day.
This action was considered a cowardly act and a flagrant violation of human rights by targeting the unarmed, displaced persons camps, shelters and civilian neighbourhoods, calling for a halt to the war he described as insane.
