Between 1,000 and 3,000 families have been displaced from the town of Umm Rawaba in North Kordofan to other areas due to ongoing clashes in the region, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
In a statement on Sunday, the organization said that the displaced families have moved to other locations within Umm Rawaba, Al-Rahad, and Umm Dam Haj Ahmed localities in North Kordofan, as well as to localities in the states of Khartoum, White Nile, and Sennar.
It added that the situation in the region remains tense and unpredictable.
In its report on internal displacement in 2024, IOM stated that the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sudan increased by approximately 27% over the past year compared to 2023—the year the war began in the country—rising from 9,052,822 IDPs in December 2023 to 11,532,822 IDPs in December 2024.
The report highlighted that the states with the largest increase in IDPs in 2024 were: Gedaref, North Darfur, River Nile, South Darfur, and Blue Nile.
According to the report, displacement in 2024 was caused by attacks and clashes, floods, and fires.
