The authorities of South Sudan have relocated some Sudanese nationals to the Security Headquarters and the General Army Command in Juba as a protective measure following the unrest that occurred in Juba and other cities across the country on Thursday.
A source told moatinoun that the situation remains tense in most states, though relative calm has returned to the capital, Juba. However, Sudanese residents in the city are still staying indoors.
Later today, the Inspector General of the National Police in South Sudan, Abraham Manyuat peter, issued an order imposing a nationwide curfew from dusk to dawn, following Thursday night’s protests and the looting of Sudanese traders shops in Juba.
This development comes in response to angry protests triggered by the killing of South Sudanese citizens in Sudan’s Al-Jazira state last weekend.
In a statement to the media, General Abraham Manyuat peter declared that shops and food markets must close by 6:00 PM. He reassured residents that the police would ensure the protection of lives and property.
"I want to assure citizens that the police are responsible for their safety and property. They are responsible for public order and health, and residents are free to move and work as they wish," he stated.
