The Republic of Djibouti, in its capacity as the current chair of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), has expressed deep concern over the killings and human rights violations in Wad Madani, Gezira State, and other areas in Sudan.

In a statement published on IGADs official website on Sunday, Djibouti unequivocally condemned "these acts" and called for accountability through bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the rights of civilians. It urged efforts to prevent further escalation of the Sudanese crisis and its potential impact on neighboring countries.

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) of the African Union had also expressed dismay and condemnation of the events that occurred in recent days in Gezira State, Sudan, in a statement issued last Wednesday.

In a statement signed by Hatim El-Saim, the Country Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Republic of Sudan, the ACHPR described the violence as "a grave violation of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights and the fundamental principles of human dignity."

The Commission called for an investigation, accountability for perpetrators, and urgent measures to ensure the safety of civilians and protect them from all forms of violence. It also urged strict adherence to the letter and spirit of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, international human rights law, international humanitarian law, and relevant international instruments.
