Rapid Support Forces shelling of Al-Naw Hospital kills 5 civilians

Moatinoon
Five people were killed today in Al-Nawa Hospital in Omdurman city as a result of artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces. Al-Nawa Hospital is the only functioning health facility in Omdurman city after the war broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on April 15, 2023.

A source who requested anonymity for security reasons told Agence France-Presse that volunteers at Al-Nawa Hospital were among those killed in the shelling by the Rapid Support Forces. "The shells fell in the garden next to the hospital," the source said.

Al-Nawa Hospital, which is supported by the medical charity Doctors Without Borders, is located in an area controlled by the Sudanese army and has been subjected to repeated attacks since the beginning of the war. Greater Khartoum was one of the main battlegrounds in the power struggle between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, the leader of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The war has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced more than 12 million.

Both sides have been accused of indiscriminately shelling health facilities and residential areas.

The army’s gains in Khartoum in recent weeks prompted the RSF to announce a counter-offensive last week.

On Saturday, at least 60 people were killed in RSF shelling of the busy Sabreen market north of Omdurman.
