The final statement of the African summit, which was held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, called for a humanitarian truce during the month of Ramadan in Sudan, and renewed its demand for a ceasefire.

For his part, the Commissioner for Peace and Security at the African Union, Bankole Adeoye, called on the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces to stop the bloodbaths. He stressed that the resumption of Sudans activities in the African organization must be preceded by clear steps towards democratic transformation in Sudan.

He said in a press conference today in Addis Ababa that the relevant committee will study the developments related to Sudan, and that the African Union is committed to continuing its efforts to stop the fighting in Sudan.

The Commissioner revealed that steps are underway to hold a meeting between the Sudanese political forces in the Ethiopian capital, noting that the dissolved National Congress Party is not invited to participate in this meeting.

Adeoye stressed the African organizations condemnation of the major violations that affected the Sudanese, including women and children.
